Early Sunday Morning Narration by ~crumpet-chan:iconcrumpet-chan:

Early Sunday Morning by Edward Hopper

This was painted in 1930.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Jenny heaved on the rope to fully open the mainsail. She loved it out here. Her dad had gone below decks for a short nap, leaving their boat, the swallow, in what she hoped were safe hands.

Being on the sea gives many people the experience of suffering seasickness, but for her it gave her the opportunity to step away from the bustling world of Margate and gave her the feeling whenever she closed her eyes as the boat crested a wave.

As an artist, she came out here when she needed ideas. She loved to paint the sea, and the surf. The rolling foam just worked so well, and it was virtually effortless to express this on her A3 canvas.

Jenny had come to stay with her cousins, who lived in the white lighthouse across the bay from where she sailed now. When she stayed with them, she always ended up in the highest room of the tallest tower; and although her hair wasn't twenty feet long, she did keep her door locked, to prevent her irritating cousins of just 5 years interfering.

Her room never changed and she descended into heaven when she entered the room, to be surrounded by her paintings. The colours reflected those outside; blue, beige and white.

She was the most introverted of people. The lone reason that she was not utterly pale was her sailing.

That morning she had given her aunt a camera and taken her in the Swallow to the other side of the bay. Her aunt's task was to take the perfect photo; A reference photo. It was a painting that she had had in her mind for a while.

Then it was midday and time to be going home. She picked up her aunt and when she reached her room, used her computer to print her long awaited photo, prepared her canvas and began to paint.

A couple of months later, Jenny returned to that room by the sea; the room where troubles melted away, and she walked straight over to a painting right above her bed, in pride of place. Her precious painting of the Swallow on the Waves.
